Someone pointed out to me today that October 1, 2010 is 10/01/10 (for us Americans, anyway) and they were surprised that Google hadn’t done something wacky with their logo today. The assumption we both made was that Google will probably wait until 10/10/10 (that works for non-US dates, too) and will be creative that day.
"Free People Need Social [Media] Control… And I'm Trying To Teach It To Them"
That was the lyric of the Some Girls’ song I was listening to while I just happened to be reading how Google’s boss, Eric Schmidt, suggested that someday young people will have to change their actual identities to escape their online identities. Schmidt, like a lot of other “non-young people”, seem to think that young…
Google Scholar Adds 'Search within Articles Cited' Option
Google Scholar is adding a new feature that allows researchers to conduct a search within the documents that cite to a specific case. This takes its “cited by” function up a notch by allowing you to limit the search to cases or secondary resources that have all cited the same document. I got a note…
Stopping Google 'Tinnitus' – How To Turn Off Buzz
Google Tinnitus = When you see a constant buzzing in your Gmail, and it won’t go away, more than likely, you have Google Buzz tinnitus.
We’re usually big fans here of social media, but I don’t think that Google Buzz has won any of the three of us over yet. So, one of the first…
Mobile Sites Save Lives
After reading Don Crowther’s blog, It’s Nearly 2010, Why is the Mobile Web So Frustrating?, I just had to chime in with my own thoughts. In fact, I was just railing about this very matter at lunch with Toby, a/k/a @gnawledge. This week-end, I wanted to buy a pecan pie for my sister’s…
Google's Chrome OS – Welcome Back to 1995!!
Now that I’ve had a weekend to play with two different variations of the new Chrome OS (reviewed here), I have to say that I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about Google’s attempt to jump into the operating system arena. One of the feelings I felt this weekend was completely unexpected —…
Finally… Competition Returns To The Legal Research World!
Many of you have probably seen the Tweets going around this morning about how Google Scholar has entered into the legal research arena. I have to say that I’m initially thrilled with the idea that after 15 to 20 years of legal vendor consolidation, that we may actually be on the cusp of reintroducing some…
If I Throw a Google Wave Party… And No One Shows Up??
Last week, Toby and I dove into the clean waters that is know as Google Wave. I say that it is the “clean” waters of Google Wave because most people I know have barely stuck a toe in – and most of them immediately pulled that toe back out.

Google and Privacy, cont'd.
Interesting turn of events: Vogue model Liskula Cohen won the right to force Google to unmask a blogger who defamed her character.
Taking a turn from Toby’s previous post on Google’s Gmail, I have to raise an eyebrow.
On the one hand, Google claims that they have a right to scan all of your e-mail…
Use Gmail – Waive Privilege?
Recently I noticed a resurgence of the debate on the wisdom of lawyers using hosted, freebie email accounts. The basic concern has been about the security of these types of email addresses. It is quite easy to spoof one of these addresses and intercept communications. As well Twitter can testify that once cracked, the passwords…
