I think this is one of the best awards that AALL presents to an outstanding member. Actually, it just makes me think back to when I was within my first 10 years of the profession (really, not that long ago) and how eager I was to get into the association, be involved, and make a difference.

Client-Side Legal Project Management – Why It Will Matter

Legal Project Management (LPM), perhaps THE legal buzz-phrase of 2012 continues to increase in popularity. The basic thinking behind it is centered on efficiencies. Many clients are asking their firms to become more efficient. As I have noted in the past, they might want to be more specific about what they …
If You Have To Tell People You're Valuable… You're Probably Not

I’m going to modify a quote from one of my least favorite politicians, Margaret Thatcher, and then apply it to something I’m seeing in the library profession:
Being valuable is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.
The same can be said about being funny, or…
The "Shrinkage" Tri-Fecta – Thomson Reuters Acquires LearnLive
Many of us have a macabre habit of believing that famous people die in groups of three. Last week, when I saw that Thomson Reuters had acquired PLC, and then Lexis announced they had acquired Knowledge Mosaic, I waited for the third announce, which I assumed would come from Bloomberg. I was right…

Take the question of a partner coming to the development/intelligence…
A Bit More "Shinkage" – Thomson Reuters Acquires PLC
Oh joy!! Just when you thought that LexisNexis acquiring Knowledge Mosaic was the big legal publishing news of the day. Along comes Thomson Reuters to one-up them. Practical Law Company (PLC) just sent out the news that they’ve been acquired by Thomson Reuters (TR). Everyone I’ve talked to in the past hour has groaned about…
Knowledge Mosaic Acquired by LexisNexis — More Legal Publishing "Shrinkage"
Anyone who has been around the legal publishing industry for any amount of time shouldn’t be surprised by the news that came out this morning. Knowledge Mosaic announced that it has been bought by LexisNexis and will continue as a “stand alone” product, as well as eventually being brought into the LexisNexis platform. Knowledge Mosaic…
The Arrogance of Lawyers. Will It Be Their Undoing?
How Social Media Saved Christmas
I, Sophia Lisa Salazar, come by my geekness honestly. Born of a math wizard who programmed way before computer classes existed, my sisters are, respectively, a calculus teacher and the other, a patent attorney with an MBA and two engineering degree. Against them, my humble J.D. glitters like pyrite.
So you can only imagine the ambivalent,…
